Konami has announced a surprise release of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night today for both iOS and Android. The classic side-scrolling action game first released on the original PlayStation back in 1997 and has been ported to the PSP, Xbox 360 and PS4 since.

Now it has arrived for mobile devices and it's not going to break the bank either. You'll be able to experience Castlevania: Symphony of the Night for $2.99 or your local equivalent. It has brought a few changes with it when compared to the 1997 release, such as a new continue feature alongside achievements to earn as you slash your way through the castle.

There will also be controller support, which will probably make the game far more appealing to folks who aren't overly familiar with - or fond of - using virtual d-pads and buttons. However, that's still an option if you'd rather play Symphony of the Night this way too, as you can see in the screenshots found within this article.

The games see you playing as Alucard, the son of Dracula, who has access to a wide array of weapons and abilities to help battle against the plethora of monsters that lurk within the castle walls. He can also be levelled up with experience gained through slaying numerous foes.

The release was timed to coincide with the arrival of Season 3 of the Castlevania Netflix series which drops tomorrow, 5th March. Games on your phone and your Netflix subscription aren't the only two places you can enjoy some Castlevania goodness either, you can also listen to the original Symphony of the Night soundtrack over on Spotify as well as other tracks from the series.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is available now over on the App Store and Google Play. It's a premium title that costs $2.99.
Enjoy action games? Here are 25 of the best available on Android

Saturnine Games is remaking its 2011 fast-paced 2D platformer Antipole for 3DS and Wii U under the title Antipole DX.

It has completely new graphics and music, extra levels, online leaderboards, and Miiverse integration. The 3DS version will support stereoscopic 3D too.

Other than that, it'll pretty much be the same game that was released back in 2011 on DSiWare, Xbox Live Indie Games, and PC.

It has you playing as a person moving through a particularly dangerous machine facility. Luckily, they have the ability to flip gravity at the push of a button.

Steven Universe is a popular TV show over on cartoon network and now he and all his pals are making their first appearance on Apple Arcade. It takes the form on an RPG called Unleash the Light and it's available on Apple's subscription service now.

It will feature six playable characters from the show including Steven himself, obviously, alongside five of his Gem pals. Gems being a magical extraterrestrial species of humanoids I'm led to believe. The Gems joining Steven on this journey are Garnet, Pearl, Amethyst, Lapis Lazuli and Bismuth.

Throughout the story, you'll face off against two new, prism-wielding Gems. Fans of the series will be pleased to know that these new characters were co-created by Rebecca Sugar, as was the original story they penned for Unleash the Light. It seems they've done their utmost to ensure fans get an authentic experience, bringing in the voice cast alongside Sugar.

You'll be able to customise your team by deciding who's in the party, unlocking new abilities and alternate costumes to suit your taste. The formation you team lines up in will also be important that can allow for combo attacks or even Gem Fusions, allow players to play as Sunstone and Rainbow Quartz 2.0.

If you're not a fan of Steven Universe you still might find plenty to enjoy here through the turn-based battles and a generally pleasant aesthetic. That being said, we're not exactly short of turn-based games on Apple Arcade so you might still have your hands tapping away on those.

Unleash the Light is available now through Apple Arcade, which is a subscription service that costs £4.99 per month. Check out our dedicated Apple Arcade hub for more information on the games you can play through the subscription.
Nominate your Game of the Year for the Pocket Gamer People's Choice Award 2020.

"True," replied the Crane; "but I soar to the heights of heaven and lift up my voice to the stars, while you walk below, like a cock, among the birds of the dunghill."
